What does self-managed OpenShift actually cost compared to Stakater Cloud? +
The Red Hat subscription is only part of the bill. The real cost is 3–6 senior platform engineers (€150k–€250k loaded per head per year), on-call coverage, infrastructure, plus the opportunity cost of those engineers not building product. Stakater Cloud is a flat monthly subscription from €888/month with the platform team included.
We already hold Red Hat OpenShift subscriptions — what happens to those? +
Stakater is a Red Hat Premier Partner. We can advise on subscription transition, BYOL arrangements, and how your existing entitlements map to a managed Stakater Cloud cluster. Specifics depend on your current contract — book a call and we will scope it.
How do upgrades, CVE patching and operator updates compare? +
Self-managed means your team owns every OpenShift minor and z-stream upgrade, operator updates, RHCOS patches and CVE response. Stakater Cloud runs all of it under SLA with documented rollback procedures and change windows agreed with you. You approve the window; we do the work.
Can we migrate from self-managed without downtime? +
Yes for most workloads. We use OpenShift-native tooling — OADP/Velero for backups, OpenShift Migration Toolkit for cross-cluster moves — and run a hybrid period for stateful or sensitive workloads. Cutover is scheduled around your risk tolerance.
Will we lose customisations from our existing cluster? +
Most cluster-level customisations — RBAC, network policies, identity providers, ingress, image policies, custom operators — port across cleanly. We audit your current platform up front and call out anything that needs a non-standard arrangement before migration begins.
What SLA and uptime guarantee does Stakater Cloud offer? +
Stakater Cloud Managed OpenShift carries a 99.9% uptime SLA on the cluster control plane, with multi-AZ high availability for stricter workloads. SLA terms, credits and incident-response commitments are contractual — not a best-effort internal target like most self-managed setups.
Which certifications does Stakater Cloud hold? +
ISO 27001:2022 (information security) and ISO 9001:2015 (quality management), independently audited annually. Most self-managed OpenShift environments inherit the underlying infrastructure provider's certifications but lack independent certification of the platform-operations layer itself.
Are backups, DR, and compliance evidence included? +
Yes. Velero-based backup of cluster resources and persistent volumes is part of the managed platform, with documented restore procedures. We also provide audit-ready evidence packs (controls, change logs, access reviews) that customers reuse in their own GDPR, DORA and NIS2 audits — work that self-managed teams typically own end-to-end.
