Compare · vs OpenShift Dedicated

Same OpenShift. Full platform. No cloud account.

OpenShift Dedicated is Red Hat's managed OpenShift on AWS or GCP — most commonly chosen on GCP, since there's no joint Red Hat offering like ROSA or ARO. Stakater Cloud adds GitOps, CI/CD, secrets, observability and multi-tenancy — and hosts in the Netherlands, with no cloud account to manage.

About OpenShift Dedicated

What is Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated (OSD)?

OpenShift Dedicated (OSD) is Red Hat's own managed OpenShift service, running on either AWS or GCP. On AWS, customers are increasingly steered toward ROSA; on GCP, OSD is the only managed OpenShift option Red Hat offers because there is no joint Red Hat + Google product. Red Hat operates the control plane — you bring (or rent through Red Hat) the cloud account, and the developer platform above the cluster remains your team's responsibility.

Why teams switch

Three reasons teams move from OpenShift Dedicated to Stakater Cloud.

01 / Reason

EU data residency without a US hyperscaler underneath

OSD runs on AWS or GCP — both US companies subject to the US CLOUD Act. Stakater Cloud is operated by Stakater AB (Sweden), default Amsterdam, with no AWS or GCP account anywhere in the picture.

02 / Reason

Full developer platform included beyond the cluster

OSD manages your OpenShift control plane. Everything above it — GitOps, CI/CD, secrets, observability, multi-tenancy — is your team's responsibility. Stakater Cloud bundles all of it, managed.

03 / Reason

Flat pricing, no separate cloud bill

OSD billing combines Red Hat subscriptions with the underlying hyperscaler costs (EC2 or Compute Engine, storage, egress). Stakater Cloud is one flat monthly subscription from €888/month — no cloud account, no per-resource surprises.

Side by side

How Stakater Cloud compares.

The real alternative isn't switching cloud providers — it's spending 12–18 months building this yourself with an internal platform team.

Migration path

From OpenShift Dedicated to Stakater Cloud in three steps.

A real migration plan, run alongside your team. No two-week sales pitch dressed up as discovery.

  1. 01 / Step

    Map your OpenShift Dedicated workloads

We scope your existing OpenShift Dedicated setup — clusters, workloads, data volumes, integrations, compliance posture. Honest assessment of what moves cleanly and what needs care.

  2. 02 / Step

Stand up the Stakater Cloud target

Your dedicated OpenShift cluster is provisioned in under 15 minutes, EU-hosted, with the full platform layer pre-wired — GitOps, CI/CD, observability, secrets, multi-tenancy.

  3. 03 / Step

    Migrate workloads with our SRE

Stakater SRE runs the migration alongside your team. Containerised workloads move first; data, integrations, and DNS cutover are scheduled around your risk tolerance.

Stakater Cloud vs OpenShift Dedicated — FAQ

Honest answers, no marketing copy.

Where does OpenShift Dedicated actually run? +

On AWS or GCP. AWS deployments are increasingly steered toward ROSA. For GCP-resident OpenShift, OSD is the only managed option Red Hat offers — there is no Google + Red Hat joint offering equivalent to ROSA or ARO.

Is OpenShift Dedicated GDPR compliant for regulated EU workloads? +

OSD runs on AWS or GCP, both US-headquartered companies subject to the US CLOUD Act. Stakater Cloud is operated by Stakater AB (Sweden) with all data hosted in the Netherlands — a cleaner posture under GDPR, DORA and NIS2.

Does OSD include GitOps, CI/CD or observability tooling? +

No. OSD manages the OpenShift control plane. Everything above it your team must install, configure and maintain. Stakater Cloud's Managed KubeStack+ tier includes all of it pre-wired.

How does OpenShift Dedicated pricing compare to Stakater Cloud? +

OSD pricing combines a Red Hat subscription with the underlying cloud infrastructure costs (EC2 or GCE, storage, network egress). It scales unpredictably. Stakater Cloud is flat from €888/month with the platform included.

Can I migrate from OpenShift Dedicated to Stakater Cloud? +

Yes. Both sides are OpenShift, so cluster-level configuration — RBAC, network policies, identity providers, ingress, image policies — ports cleanly. Book a call and we will scope the migration around your workloads and risk tolerance.

What SLA and uptime guarantee does Stakater Cloud offer? +

Stakater Cloud Managed OpenShift carries a 99.9% uptime SLA on the cluster control plane, with a multi-AZ high-availability option for workloads with stricter requirements. SLA terms, credits and incident-response commitments are documented in the contract.

Which certifications does Stakater Cloud hold? +

ISO 27001:2022 (information security) and ISO 9001:2015 (quality management), independently audited annually. OSD inherits the underlying hyperscaler's certifications (AWS or GCP), but operates under US jurisdiction. Stakater Cloud is operated under Swedish/EU law.

Are backups and disaster recovery included? +

Yes. Velero-based backup of cluster resources and persistent volumes is part of the managed platform with documented restore procedures. OSD provides etcd backups for the control plane but leaves application-level backup, restore and DR ownership to the customer.
