The Platform Team They Never Had to Hire
This company builds and operates a SaaS platform used by enterprise clients across multiple industries to manage complex, high-volume operational workflows. Their engineering team is talented, product-focused, and deliberately lean — every engineer hired is there to build product, not to babysit infrastructure.
As the platform grew, so did the operational burden of their Kubernetes environment. Cluster upgrades, certificate management, storage provisioning, observability gaps, CI/CD maintenance — none of it was in anyone’s job description, and all of it was stealing time from product work. Two Clusters, Full Platform, Days Not Months
The deployment was deliberate: two separate OpenShift clusters — one for non-production workloads (development, testing, staging) and one for production. Clean separation, consistent environments, no configuration drift between what developers test against and what customers run on.
On top of Managed OpenShift, the team chose Managed KubeStack+ — Stakater’s full developer platform layer, pre-wired and production-ready out of the box:

Alongside the platform layer, their workloads required managed data services. Stakater provisioned PostgreSQL as the primary application database and RabbitMQ as the message broker for async task processing — both operated and monitored by Stakater, not the customer’s engineering team.

The most immediate feedback came from the engineering team itself — and it was unambiguous.
Developers noticed the difference within their first week. Local changes were reflected in cluster environments quickly. GitOps workflows via ArgoCD meant deployments were consistent and visible to the whole team. GitHub Actions triggered deployments that landed cleanly every time. Log access through Loki meant debugging production issues no longer required SSH access or log aggregation hacks.
The platform gave developers what they actually want: fast feedback, clear visibility, and zero time spent waiting for environments or chasing infrastructure problems.

Proactive Support: The Detail That Stood Out
Infrastructure support is usually reactive — you file a ticket, you wait. Stakater operates differently.
The team at Stakater monitored the clusters proactively, flagging potential issues before they became incidents. When a resource constraint was trending in the wrong direction, Stakater reached out first. When an upstream OpenShift release included a change relevant to the customer’s configuration, Stakater communicated it in advance with a clear action plan.
Engineers described the support relationship as feeling more like an internal SRE team than a vendor helpdesk. Issues that would typically take days to resolve through a support ticket system were resolved in hours — often before the customer’s team had fully diagnosed the problem themselves.

What This Unlocked
The commercial impact of removing infrastructure burden from an engineering team is easy to underestimate until you measure it. Every sprint planning session that used to start with “what cluster issues do we need to deal with this week?” now starts with “what are we shipping?”
